Topics and Area of Expertise

CEES brings together a network of affiliated members from the University of Zurich who contribute their expertise in current political, economic, foreign policy, security, and societal developments in Eastern Europe. This expertise is shared through organizing conferences and workshops, media outreach, advisory mandates, and publications. CEES members serve, among other roles, as co-editors of the country-specific publication series of the Eastern Europe – Analytical Digest Series  and as authors of think-tank publications produced in collaboration with the Center for Security Studies at ETH Zurich.

Thematically, CEES and its affiliated members cover a broad range of issues, with a particular focus on foreign and security policy as well as domestic political, economic, and societal developments. Geographically, the center’s work spans the states and regions of the former socialist Eastern Europe, with a focus on Russia, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, the countries of the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Western Balkans.
