Cooperation Partners

The CEES engages in partnerships with select institutions outside of the University of Zurich for collaboration on concrete long-term projects. Currently, CEES maintains partnerships with four institutions and is also involved in an international cooperation project (SAUL).

Center for Security Studies (CSS), ETH Zurich

Since 2018, CEES has maintained a strategic partnership with the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich. Within this cooperation, CEES and the CSS Think Tank jointly develop academically grounded expertise on socially relevant and politically topical issues related to Eastern Europe. A particular focus is placed on Russia and other selected countries and regions of the post-Soviet space, as well as the Western Balkans.

The collaboration includes the production of scientific analyses on selected current issues in Eastern Europe, the organization of events, and participation in the jointly supported publication series of the Eastern Europe – Analytical Digest Series, which is co-sponsored by CEES, CSS, and the Research Centre for East European Studies (FSO) at the University of Bremen. The series comprises six country- and region-specific publications focusing on Russia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, and Central Asia.

As part of the strategic partnership, CEES members have published numerous analyses since 2018 in CSS think-tank publication series, including CSS Analyses in Security Policy, CSS Policy Perspectives, and the CSS yearbook Strategic Trends.

Forum RGOW

Forum RGOW – Religion & Society in East and West provides knowledge about Eastern Europe and supports socially disadvantaged groups and individuals in the region. Once a year, the CEES and the Forum RGOW jointly organize a public event on current developments in Eastern Europe at the University of Zurich.

Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES), George Washington University

The CEES cooperates with the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University, with which it co-edits the online magazine Russian Analytical Digest.

Research Centre for East European Studies, University of Bremen

The CEES collaborates with the Research Center for East European Studies (FSO) at the University of Bremen in the framework of the collaboration of the Eastern Europe – Analytical Digest Series, which is co-sponsored by CEES, CSS, and FSO. The series comprises six country- and region-specific publications focusing on Russia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, and Central Asia.

CEES is a partner in the international project Swiss-Armenian University Link (SAUL), which aims to improve and expand academic collaboration between Swiss and Armenian universities. The current project partners are the University of Fribourg (coordination), the University of Bern, the University of Zurich, the American University of Armenia, and Yerevan State University. SAUL is funded by Movetia (Switzerland) and runs from November 2025 to October 2027.
